After a 4 month long proof of concept, the National Sea Rescue Institute has deployed it’s first Beach Safety Camera at Strand Beach. The system consists of remote cameras with a 24hr stream to NSRI’s Emergency Operations Centre (EOC)

The Beach Safety Camera supports lifeguards by offering a birds eye view of the beach, and enables the monitoring of swimmers and recreational activity at long range. During the winter, when no lifeguards are present, the Beach Safety Camera system allows operators to monitor activities, such as kayakers and kite surfer.

The future-proofed design will support video analytics, such as rip-current recognition and other alerts.

We look forward to rolling out the system to more beaches around South Africa.
